MG Hector vs Hyundai Kona

India’s first smart car is finally revealed in India with massive features like smart voice assistant, smartphone connectivity, TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) which are first in the segment. But either MG focuses on Internet connectivity or also good in performance & Comfort?

Electric cars are not getting so many attention worlds wide because of various reasons like a bad pickup, hard to find a service station, high cost. But World-changing rapidly & due to the high rate of pollution, every carmaker now plans to move on the electric one. Now Hyundai moves one step forward by reveling it’s the first car as electric SUV in India name as Kona but the main problem which arises during purchasing of electric cars are high taxation on Electric vehicles, high after maintenance cost as well as high manufacturing cost. Let’s see Hyundai Kona will successful or not by it’s the first electric vehicle.

Design & Looks of Hector & Kona:

In terms of looks & design, it’s almost as similar as Tata Harrier design where main headlights are DRLS with turn indicators & low/high beam headlights are placed just below the DRLS. In lower most LED Fog lamps are placed. It’s good to see that, the maximum lights are LED’S both in exterior & in the interior.

The side profile is longest in its segment that’s why you don’t feel any issue related to legroom. Apart from that Height is also more than sufficient, therefore headroom is also very good. Glass area is massive & sunroof is longest compared to any other car so it’s fell more airy & spacious. 17 inches of spoked diamond cut alloy wheels mounted on the rims which make an SUV roar on the roads.

Well, Electric cars have been designed differently as compared to IC engine vehicles & you also feel some difference in the shape of the hood, interior space,& dimension also & definitely space in terms of headroom & legroom is more in the electric vehicle because of elimination of heavy component of IC engine. Yes, the design of Kona looks futuristic with LED’s DRL’s on the top with turn indicators & LED projectors at the bottom. While fog lamp can not be seen in the design leaked by Hyundai. Side frame consist of chrome door handles with a black finish on the wheel housing. Hopefully, 16/17 inches of diamond cut alloy wheels can be expected from Kona while revealing its specification. The overall design is almost the same as previous Kona as launched worldwide.

Interior of MG Hector & Hyundai Kona :

Interior looks are quite different & give the rich experience to front seater’s so in terms of quality & looks of the interior it’s as similar as Harrier. Steering with edge cut feels perfectly shaped & gives good handling. Both reach & tilt adjustment is available in the steering. Electronic seat adjustment for the driver can be available. Globe box is quit decent with sufficient storage space. In the hybrid variant of MG, seat adjustment for co-drive is available because of large battery installation.

Engine & Transmission of MG Hector:

Hector available in two engine option 1st one is 1.5 L (1497 cc) petrol engine which will give you a smooth performance & decent power with 70 BHP of power, while 2.0 L of diesel engine provides you 154 BHP of power with a high torque which is comfortable for trip, mountain driving & uneven roads.

Transmission is very smooth & available with DCT automatic transmission but Hybrid version comes in 6-speed manual transmission.

Hyundai Kona Electric Performance:

Definitely, you will see the difference in terms of power when you will drive the electric vehicle but Kona will give you another level experience by its fantastic acceleration from(0-100 km/h) in just 9.7 s & it’s equal to a Tata Tiago pickup. The main advantage of Kona while driving is its different modes during different conditions. ECO, Sport, Normal mode, these modes will help to drive differently like sport’s mode helps you for quick pick up, Eco mode helps you to achieve maximum efficiency & city mode called as normal mode.

Weight of the battery’s & motors are less comparatively so definitely a weight of electric SUV equals to a sedan. These batteries provided 136 Ps of power same as 1.3-liter petrol engine so it’s a very positive step of Hyundai to introduce an electric vehicle in India.

In comparison with Tata Harrier & Jeep compass quality-wise, it’s almost same & performance is also similar but the outstanding features like voice assistant make a friendly car. Yes it takes some time to make their name in the Indian market but this Chinese own British brand will definitely a powerful competitor in the Indian market

Hyundai Kona when compares to Hector than it produces less power & performance but as the government decided to that in 2030 every car run in India would have been an electric car than we can say that Hyundai Kona is a future proof car because MG Hector is not an electric car.
